AdJug - the online advertising exchange

Publisher FAQ

The basics

How do I set up an account?

There are two ways you can sign up with AdJug. Either go directly into the "sell ads" process to set up your first ad space - you will be asked to register before receiving your ad code. Alternatively, if you would like to sign up prior to listing an ad space, you can register here.

Are there any sign-up costs involved?

There is no cost for signing up as a publisher.

Do I need to sign a contract?

At AdJug we believe in freedom of choice. Although you are bound by AdJug's terms and conditions you are under no obligation to use AdJug at any point.

How much does AdJug charge?

Well - we do have to pay for servers, salaries and other costs associated with providing the service to you. AdJug charges a 20% transaction fee for any campaign processed using the AdJug platform. We do this by charging a 20% increment on top of what you want to get for traffic from your site.

Are there any other costs to consider?

Some of the ad campaigns may be placed by advertising agencies. These campaigns are subject to a 15% commission which is payable to the agency booking the campaign. When you are offered an ad campaign from an agency, 15% will be deducted from the gross value of the campaign.

What is an ad space?

This is the area of a publisher's site where advertising exists. These ad spaces are defined by you, the publisher.

Can I work with other ad networks?

Absolutely! We are confident that you will get the best prices for your ad inventory through our marketplace, because you are in control and setting the terms of the business. If, however another ad network is offering higher rates, then you quite simply display their ads by changing your bid/CPM threshold.

Are there any terms I should be familiar with before I start?

We have listed all the jargon we think you will need. If however you come across a term that you don't understand and it's not listed here then simply mail us at and we'll do our best to find an explanation.

Ad space: The area of a publisher's site where advertising exists.

CPM: Cost per thousand impressions (CPM) - the amount you pay per thousand impressions on your ad.

CTR: Click-through rate (CTR) - the number of clicks your ad receives divided by the number of times your ad is shown (impressions).

Conversion tracking: A conversion occurs when a click on your ad leads directly to user behaviour you deem valuable, such as a purchase, signup, page view, or lead. Using our conversion tracking pixel, you can see which sites your conversions come from.

Current bid price: The prevailing bid price for a particular ad space at this point in time.

eCPC: Effective cost per click (eCPC) - your average cost per click delivered. (Total campaign cost divided by total number of clicks delivered.)

eCPM: Effective cost per thousand impressions (eCPM) - your average cost per thousand impressions delivered. ((Total campaign cost divided by total impressions delivered) x 1000)

Impressions: The number of impressions is the number of times an ad is displayed.

Order confirmation page: Following a purchase, lead generation, or other form of conversion on an advertiser's site, users will often be taken to an order confirmation or thank-you page to acknowledge a successful transaction. To ensure accurate conversion reporting, advertisers using Adjug's conversion tracking tool should place a conversion pixel on this page.

What are the benefits of publishing banner ads?
Combining banners with text ads gives you the best option to earn more from your ad inventory. Banner ads are paid on a CPM basis, so they generate revenue for every impression.

How much can I expect to earn?
As with text ads, banner ads are paid at the price defined by you or the price offered by an advertiser.

How to create an ad space

Placing your ad spaces

Where should ad spaces be placed?
The best locations for ad spaces are on areas that are above the fold (the part of a web page that is shown before the need to scroll) and the most visible for your users.

Can I place multiple ad codes on one page?
Absolutely, we recommend creating one image ad space per page.

Can I place the same set of ad codes in multiple ad spaces on a page?
No. Each ad space has a unique set of ad tags. However, you may paste the same ad tags in multiple ad spaces across different pages.

Ad space prices

There are two options; you can either set the prices manually or allow AdJug to automatically optimize your pricing based on demand for your site.

How to manage your ad space

How do I add an ad code to my site?

Quite simply by copying and pasting the code generated by AdJug at the end of the 'sell ad space' process into the HTML code for the website you want the ads to appear on. Pass these ad codes on to your website administrator if the site is not managed by you.

What is a storefront?

A storefront is your own mini-website which appears within the AdJug marketplace. Its purpose is to provide buyers with all the information they want to know about your website, as well as to act as a marketing tool for you.

How many storefronts can I have?

You can have one storefront for each website you define with AdJug.

How do I price my ad spaces?

Take a look at other websites with a similar profile to yours and check out their media packs or rate cards. Find reports generated by the, ClickZ, emarketer and Nielsen//NetRatings.

Getting paid

What is the minimum I need to earn before I receive a payment?

The minimum amount that needs to be amassed is £50.

What is a net payment?

A net payment is the actual revenue you will earn after any agency commission and AdJug's share of the revenue have been deducted.

When do I get paid?

AdJug makes payments on a 45 day basis. If you have not amassed the minimum £50 in your account, the revenue will automatically roll over to the following month's payment.

What is a 45 day basis?

AdJug pays you 45 days after the advertiser pays us. This ensures we protect against credit card fraud.
